Objective
Strengthen collaboration between the Optical Networks Research Group (IRO) and University College London to develop approaches that reduce the cost of deploying and operating optical networks, with an emphasis on regional connectivity in Chile.
Approach
The initiative connects researchers from Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, Universidad de Concepción, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez, and University College London.
Its technical scope combines optical networking with machine learning, particularly deep reinforcement learning. Research collaboration and advanced training are central to the proposed work.
Contribution
The project is designed to consolidate an international research partnership and strengthen regional expertise in optical networks. Its intended contribution extends from network operation and infrastructure planning to the exchange of knowledge with industry and public institutions.
